Hanley at Home Fund

The Hanley Economic Building Society was founded in 1854 as the “Staffordshire Potteries Economic Permanent Benefit Building Society” and became the Hanley Economic Building Society in 1930.  By definition, a building society is collectively owned and run for the benefit of its Members and the Hanley is proud that after almost 170 years, they are still located in the community in which they were founded.

For many years they have given strong support to the local community including sponsorship of local charity events, fundraising partnerships with local charities and enabling and encouraging staff to volunteer with local charitable causes.

Now they are taking that commitment a step further by launching the Hanley at Home Fund.  The Hanley already support their members in many ways, but their main aim is to help people save for their futures and own their own homes. We want the Hanley At Home Fund to support this.

About the Hanley at Home Fund

 

The Hanley at Home fund will award grants to organisations that will help people to manage and maintain their own home.  There are many ways that this could be achieved and so we don’t want to be too prescriptive.  We are happy to consider your project for funding if you think it will help to achieve this aim.  Some examples of projects could include:

  • Teaching children and young people about finance and household financial management, such as how bank accounts, credit cards and interest works
  • Helping people to learn independent living skills so that they are able to live alone
  • Supporting organisations which will help older people with hospital discharge so that they can return to their homes
  • Supporting people to remain in their homes when faced with a medical condition
  • To help and support people into housing where they might not ordinarily consider it as a viable option

 

This list is not exhaustive, and we are happy to receive proposals which address the overall aims of the fund.

Eligibilty

Who We Are Able to Support 

This programme is able to consider applications from:

  • Registered Charities
  • Constituted community groups
  • Constituted voluntary groups
  • Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs)
  • Registered social enterprises
  • Industrial and Provident Societies
Additionally:
  • Organisations should have been operating for a minimum of 12 months
  • Organisations do not need to have an account, nor be a member with an account at the Hanley

Who We Are Not Able to Support 

This programme is not able to offer funding to:

  • Any of the Society’s partner charities
  • Local Authorities
  • Parish and Town Councils
  • Schools
  • Statutory organisations
  • Groups that will benefit statutory organisations
  • National organisations with no local arm
  • Private businesses

Geographical Reach

Organisations should be based in or working in:

  • Stoke-on-Trent
  • Newcastle-under-Lyme
  • Staffordshire Moorlands
  • Stafford

Projects We Can Support 

Your project must meet at least one of the following aims:

  • To support organisations that will help people learn life skills so that they will be more able to manage and maintain their own home.
  • To support organisations that will help people to remain in their own home on discharge from hospital.
  • To help and encourage people into housing to whom this would otherwise not be an option.
  • To support children and young people in learning about finance and improving their financial literacy skills.

  • Awareness days

Ineligible Costs 

  • Funding towards religious projects or projects that promote religion. Projects delivered by faith-based organisations will be considered, as long as the services they provide are available to people or all faiths or no faith
  • Political campaigning activities specific to any one party, including participation in political demonstrations, support of a political party, or the issuing of material which supports or opposes a particular party or government
  • Statutory bodies or provision, including towards the provision of core statutory services or services that carry out a statutory responsibility
  • Retrospective funding, where the project has already occurred or for goods and services which have already been ordered or purchased prior to funding being approved
  • Projects designed to generate a private profit

Grants Available 

You can apply for a grant of up to £5000

What to expect on the application form 

You may find the following information useful, so as you are prepared when completing the application form.
1) The application form will request details about your organisation and the designated lead contact for the project. Please ensure that the lead contact has the authority to sign contracts, as they will be financially responsible for managing the award.
2) Regarding the project, the application will then ask the following:
  1. What will you do during your project / activity?
  2. What need or disadvantage are you trying to address?
  3. How will your project improve the lives of the people that engage with it?
  4. If you receive funding, what will happen after the funding ends?
  5. How does your proposed project meet the aims of the fund as set out in the criteria? 
  6. Have your potential beneficiaries been engaged in the design of the project or activity? How do you know they want it?
  7. How will you measure the impact of your project or activity?
  8. Have you managed similar projects before? What was the impact of your work?

3) You will be asked beneficiary data, including target numbers (please be realistic with this as we will expect monitoring to reflect support)

4) Finally, you will be asked to provide a full budget breakdown to show how you will spend the grant

Documents You Need to Send Us

The following documents must be provided with your application. If you fail to provide these documents, your application will not be considered. All documents should be submitted at the time of the application.

  • Governance document (Constitution, Memorandum and Articles of Association)
  • Accounts – either audited, independently examined or financial forecast
  • Bank Statement – must be no older than 3 months and needs to clearly show the bank account name (which matches the application), number and sort code
  • Safeguarding policy
  • Equality Policy
  • A copy of your insurance document
  • Quotes for capital items

How to Apply

To apply, please click on the link below.

This will take you to our online funding portal.

  • You will be asked to register with your name and email address, if this is your first time on our portal, or sign in if you have visited the portal before
  • Once in the portal, click on “available Funding”
  • This will display a table with al of our available grants
  • Find this programme in the list and navigate to the far right hand column, where you will see the word “apply”
  • Click on the word “apply” and this will take you to the application form
