United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were created through the largest ever participatory process undertaken by the United Nations. Ten million people, from all walks of life, expressed their views on and offline in the consultation process to help shape the 2030 UN Agenda, and subsequently, the UN SDGs were agreed and adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action, to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Putting the Sustainable Development Goals into a global context

The UN SDGs were designed to transform our world.  Over 700 million people live in extreme poverty; climate change is accelerating; and there are many conflicts around the world that are negatively affecting many of the goal aims. Focusing on issues and tackling them head on means that we have a chance to make a real positive impact.

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by:

• Ending poverty in all its forms everywhere
• End hunger and achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
• Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. …
• Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
