The Edward Wood Fund is available to support individuals who are hearing impaired up to the age of 19 years old. Small grants are available to support projects that would be unobtainable through statutory organisations. The fund is available to people resident in Stoke on Trent and those who have been educated in Stoke-on-Trent.
Eligibility and Application Process
Who We Are Able to Support
We will support people who meet the following criteria;
- Children & Young People up to the age of nineteen (those aged 0-19).
- Applicants must be hearing impaired
- Resident in Stoke on Trent or spent your education in Stoke on Trent.
Funding can be used to help hearing impaired children and young people from birth up until the end of the year in which they become 19 years of age. The applicant must be living in the city of Stoke-on-Trent or have been educated in Stoke-on-Trent at any level.
Initial support for a hearing impaired student applying for a course of higher education will also be considered and is open to application.
These grants are available to provide support for needs not normally met by statutory bodies or agencies, such as local education authorities, health or social services. There is also support for educational and social visits, meetings or excursions which bring children or young people together. The grant can also be allocated to the provision of specialist equipment or software that is designed to assist the hearing impaired in their education or daily activities.

Eligible Costs
- Support for needs that are unobtainable via statutory bodies or agencies such as local education authorities, health or social services.
- Educational visits.
- Social events/ visits which bring children and young people together.
- Acquisition of specialist equipment or software to aid in education and daily activities.
- Learning support materials.
- Support for specific activities for individuals which promote opportunities for inclusion and extended learning.
What to expect on the application form
You may find the following information useful, so as you are prepared when completing the application form.
1) The application form will request details about you and your circumstances. This may include a breakdown of who is in your household, and your financial income and expenditure. We will also ask about your education and where you are studying.
2) We will want to know what you need help with:
- What would you like support with?
- Are there any extenuating circumstances affecting your son or daughter what should be considered?
- How will the award benefit your son or daughter?
3) Finally, you will be asked how you will spend the award
Submission Deadlines
Applications may be submitted at any time, and will be considered at a panel meeting.
Panel meetings usually take place twice each year, however, it is currently closed.
Applications submitted between 1st May and 31st October will be considered at a panel meeting in November.
Applications submitted between 1st November and 30th April will be considered at a panel meeting in May.
